I have decided to switch gears from Barbie to Campbell’s Soup Company. My rationale for doing research on Campbell’s for my project, is that it is a company that has been around for over a century, with long-standing popularity. I’m focusing my research on how Campbell’s advertising has adapted to the various times and decades, while still possessing the “hmm hmm good” family appeal to it. So far, I have found some information through Google and through The Encyclopedia of Advertising, Volume I (A-E)in Simpson library. Both of these contained many Campbell’s ads from the turn of the 20th century to the present.
Interesting and good idea for your topic! I think that your argument is: The Cambell Soup Company has been around for decades and seen many time changes. However it has not been corrupted by the media and maintains its family appeal.
I think that you have chosen a really good idea, it seems that your argument is not really formed yet. However, you are hinting that it has changed to fit mainstream culture throughout the years. I think perhaps you should expand on that and nail down a precise “thesis.”
I really like your idea and it seems as if you can find a lot of articles about it because its so popular. Your general topic seems clear to me, and when creating a thesis, my only comment would be that you should make a more direct statement..maybe even adressing a specific time period? Depending on how much research you find will determine this, but so far I like where its going!=)
I think that your arugment will involve the historical context around the Campbell Soup Company, and how they have stayed so popular throughout the years. Your research on things like commercial techniques and slogans will be successful in supporting your argument.
Hmm, I like your idea. The soup can itself has not changed, obviously, so I would like to hear about the mode of the ads and if the slogan for cambell’s ads has changed at all.
